Happy Birthday to Me

It was a great day for me. Our original plan was Disneyland then Benihana's for dinner. As the day progressed I felt less and less like getting out of the house. I made some phone calls, got a few things taken care of. Finally I can report John's earnings over the phone instead of wasting paper making copies and having to drive to the Social Security office to drop them off! My sweet as ever son went to Starbucks this morning and got me a latte so I didn't even have to do that. I really was going to take a shower about 12 or so but then the mail came and the last disc of the 5th season of Weeds was in it so I just sat on the couch and watched all 4 episodes..I helped John with his homework and I knew he really wanted to take me out for birthday dinner. So about 4 I took a shower and got on the road. The plan was Downtown Disney or Benihana's. Since the traffic was light I said let's go to Beni's or as John calls it BeniHonda's. It was nice and they do give you a lot of food. Happy Birthday to me!

Last Saturday 1. I made a pot of hot water to wake up to because I forgot to put the coffee in the filter 2. I did something to my hair that made me look like Donald Trump (the comb over). 3. Had a really good day at work.
John calls the program we watch on Monday's "Cake Batter" I figured out is was Cake Boss. He is so funny. We like to watch other people bake.

Rosanne Rosannadana

Well as Rosanne Rosannadana said "It's always something". This past week I decided to be more proactive in maintaining my house. There are a "few" issues that need to be taken care of so I thought I would begin by calling the plumber. So I had this in my mind to do and then a light in my car went on that said "Check engine" and it wouldn't go off. This made me nervous since I have to drive to work. So I took it to the repair shop. I also had decided to try a different shop that was closer to me so it wouldn't be so difficult to get the car in and have John pick me up. Okay, so I get to the new shop and he is backed up with work, but I leave my car because I won't drive it and he said that if there is a cancellation he would be able to look at it. But I still go ahead and call the plumber. I set up an appointment for Thursday, walk to the service porch to take the clothes out of the washer and notice they are still pretty wet, BINGO spin cycle is not working. So I get the appliance guy to come out on Thursday and the plumber. Yes I need a new washer and the plumbing repairs are about twice what I thought ( or wanted ) them to be. So this past week I bought a new washer, fixed my car and made a tenitive appointment for plumbing repairs. I am glad that I have a little bit of savings, but was really hoping to use it to go to Hawaii.

Baby Naomi

Today I was able to spend a couple of hours with Baby Naomi and her mama Liz. I forgot how tiny tiny newborn babies are, she is a little over 7 pounds at almost 3 weeks. What I like about babies is that 1. You get to give them back 2. They are so incredibly cute when they cry, it's such serious business. 3. The way they snuggle up like a little bunny ball . So I have standing Wednesday date with Liz and Naomi, a good time to plan (taking a shower in peace) a good time to visit (daddy's going back to work) and a chance to see a sweet little girl..

T-Shirt Mystery

I know there must be someone out there that can explain the man vs t shirt mystery...I really TRY not to be too critical of John's dressing, he's 24, the clothes are clean, he does his own laundry, but occasionally I will look over at him and he will have on the most ratty chewed collared T shirt on, with the threads coming out of the seams. OMG. So I will say something meaningful like "Nice T shirt John....are you practicing for being a Hobo"...John: Mom stop it....But in my mind I am thinking when that goes into the laundry hamper I MUST intercept it.But usually I forget and it gets washed and worn again. Today I was on top of it though and was able to remove 4 of the rattiest T shirts. This is what happens. John will do his laundry, fold it and put it in the drawer. When he gets dressed he opens the drawer and takes out a T shirt, which means what ever is on the top. So I rotated the stock, lets see if he wears something else next week..Either way he is just the best and makes me laugh.

Wish I was there

Wednesday for John's homework the students had to write a poem in either the style of Gwendolyn Brooks or William Blake. John chose Brooks. So he wrote a short poem, with one or two suggestion from me. When I asked him about class on Thursday, did he turn it in he said "No I read it in class"!!!! VERY VERY BIG deal. Now you have to realize when I get so excited and amazed I am very cool on the outside, so I said " Oh that's good , did you have too?" and he said "No I wanted to " We celebrated with pizza from Costco..

Spring Semester Drama, Mom to the rescue

As much as I try not to control John's everyday life there are just times when I have to jump in and do it. John started Spring semester on Monday. Prior to the first day of school he(we) received an e mail from Mr Gick stating that all students needed to attend the first day of class and get there on time, or they would be dropped. Since the budget cuts many, many classes have been eliminated or the hours cut. The class John is taking is an English 15 class for students prior to beginning English 101. There were probably 50 + on the wait list. So Sunday John and I took a drive to Cerritos College to locate the class building since it was being held in the Business Education building, class BE 13. Okay we're good to go. Monday on my break I called John and left a message, class started at 10:00. On my lunch I checked my messages and John left one that said "Hi Mom call me when you get this message"...humm didn't sound quite right. I called John this was about 1140 here is the conversation.
Me: Hi John wants going on, did you make it to class on time, how did it go.
John: Well I went to the wrong class
Me:What do you mean the wrong class!!!!
John:Well I thought...
Me:WAIT A MINUTE!!!! did you go to the right class!
John:Mom don't get mad
Me: I'm not mad (just near hysterical)...did you sit in the wrong class the entire time?
The whole time this conversation is happening I am think "Great he is dropped from the class and now what is he going to do for the next 6 months" I get a little dramatic
John:Well I waited until the class was over and he didn't call my name..
I was a little confused at this point, but apparently John thought is was room 15
Me: I'm sorry I yelled. But did you go find the instructor and let him know what happened?
John: No I just came home.
Me: Okay, get back on the bus and meet me at school.
I went back up and requested to leave on a family emergency and drove to the school. Checked out the building hoping Mr Gick had an office in that building, but no.Then John came , we tracked down Mr Gick in the Liberal Arts building, explained what happened, and he readmitted John. Crisis averted.

English 15 room 15 or 13...it could happen.
